my knitting projects

cable headband free knitting patternThis cable knit ear warmer headband is my next knitting project!  It’s soccer season and it’s downright crazy cold but what kind of mom would I be if I didn’t come to those games!  I’ll be knitting mine up in the team colors!

You can download this free  knitting pattern here!  As usual, when I’m done with mine I’ll come back and share the results here.

I haven’t ever done a cable knit but I found this YouTube video I’m sharing below… it doesn’t seem too scary so it’s time to learn something new!

ear warmer with crochet flowerThis headband ear warmer pattern with a crochet flower is easy to knit up if you are looking for a last minute gift to make that someone special for Christmas.

I’m sure y’all have notice I post lots of free knitting patterns here which is mainly because I’m just starting out knitting and I guess I don’t want to invest in a project that I might not have the experience for.  I really wanted a knitting pattern for these cute ear warmers with the crochet flowers on them but the ones I found were all crochet patterns.

Well I came across this headband knitting pattern on Craftsy and  I had to buy it because it was just what I was looking for.

ear warmer knitting patternI didn’t use part of the crochet pattern though as I don’t crochet and didn’t know how to read that part of the pattern so I turned to YouTube and found a great video tutorial for the crochet flower that I have included below!

Materials for Knitting this Headband:

wendy ear warmerWorsted weight yarn (4)
Size 8 straight or circular knitting needles
Size H crochet hook
Row counter
Stitch marker (or piece of scrap yarn works just as well)
Two – 1 inch buttons
Tapestry needle
Tape measure

*I also got a large button to put in the center of my crochet flower.

Like I said this would be a good gift you could finish before Christmas.  It took me about five and a half hours which is not bad considering I’m not an experience knitter and I had to crochet a flower which I had never done before.  🙂

Happy knitting (and crocheting) and if you take on this project come on back and leave me a comment and tell me what you thought of it.

hat straight needlesI’m knitting my first hat on straight needles, I have done several on circular and double pointed needles but I wanted to try one this way.  I’m half way done and it’s going smoothly.

I’m using a super easy hat pattern from Red Heart pictured here.

I added some stripes to mine so it wouldn’t be so plain.  I will do a follow up post with my finished work and the row count where I added the stripes.
