free knitting patterns
This cable knit ear warmer headband is my next knitting project! It’s soccer season and it’s downright crazy cold but what kind of mom would I be if I didn’t come to those games! I’ll be knitting mine up in the team colors!
You can download this free knitting pattern here! As usual, when I’m done with mine I’ll come back and share the results here.
I haven’t ever done a cable knit but I found this YouTube video I’m sharing below… it doesn’t seem too scary so it’s time to learn something new!
I’m happy to report that the Potato Chip Ruffle Scarf I knitted turned out beautiful. I will say that while it was very easy to knit and had a nice rhythm to the pattern, it did take me quite a bit of time. I would guess 12 hoursish altogether but I’m a newbie knitter so I go pretty slow.
I’m happy enough with the pattern though that I have already started a new one! This time I’m using a a thinner yarn, a 3 DK weight, instead of a 4 worsted weight. The knitting pattern did call for a 3 but I already had some beautiful yarn I wanted to use for this one, Cerulean – With Love by Red Heart Yarns. Like I mentioned in my last post the pattern requires size 8 needles but I think US 10 would be good as well.
To the left you will see you can lay the scarf flat for a ruffle scarf or you can twist it like in the picture below to get a beautiful spiral scarf.
You can get the free pattern for this scarf here.
Have fun and if you happen to take on this project come on back by and tell me about your experience and share a picture!
I found this free pattern for a Potato Chip Scarf that is super easy and fun for the beginning knitter! Let’s face it newbies… knitting a scarf in all knit stitches can be yawn boring! With a bit of a twist (literally) you can knit something that looks like you are a pro.
For my scarf, pictured to the left, I’m using With Love yarn by Red Heart in the color Cerulean. I usually don’t like multicolored yarns but this one puts some cool strips and that almost look like bursts in the ruffles on this scarf.
I will also add that this is going pretty quickly even though I’m using US 8 needles. Smaller that I usually prefer. I’m thinking my next one I might jump up to a US 10. Yes there will be a next. I’m not that fast of a knitter either since I’m new to the game and who knows if I ever will be but I could finish several of these before Christmas for sure. 🙂
I will update in a couple of days with a picture of my finished scarf.
